Madelon Phillips is the author of the autobiographical novel “Twig” and the novel “The Pearls of Snake Hollow”. She holds a BA in creative writing from San Francisco State University, as well as a secondary teaching credential from the University of California, Berkeley. She earned a teaching minor in math and taught math for several years.
Madelon studied method acting with Jean Shelton in her San Francisco Studio and acting transitioned into writing. Her debut novel, “Twig” was inspired by her own struggle for independence in the 1950s when women like her had no power and no clear path for a decent life outside of marriage.
“Twig” opens in 1950 as the protagonist, Mattie, age eighteen, is about to marry her third husband.
The author of “Twig” now looks back to those years with eighty-five-year-old eyes and a sharp memory of life as it was before women found the courage to recreate their roles in society.
